Golf GTI DSG - Auto or Manual?

Hi everyone.
I recently sold my Civic Type R and am looking at buying a GTI which my girlfriend will mostly be driving but she only holds a full UK auto licence. Can the DSG Golf GTI be driven with an auto licence? I phoned the DVLA and they don't even know!

I pretty sure she could drive it. If it has no clutch pedal and has a 'D' position, then it's classed as an auto.

MY guess is they wont allow her to use it. because she is able to physically  put it in manual, and you cant in a auto obviously.

I was also curious about this when insuring my DSG.  It came up on the insurers system as an auto so I would have though your g/f will be covered with her auto license.

Good shout Clive i remember when getting quotes, insurance companies could not find DSG on the system but found it under auto.

Also on the V5C/log book I am sure it says Auto as well.

Thanks for the replies, it is a tricky one! How would I find out for sure? I don't want to buy one then find out she can't drive it.

2 pedals = auto.

3 pedals = manual

It matters not how the engine does it .....
