well i have just spoke to vw and he had just checked the update screen and it should be built on the 9th of september. but he said it then takes around another 4weeks after till i can pick it up due to going to port and PDI can anyone confirm this ?? or can i be expecting it a bit sooner?

4 week's sound's a bit excessive to me i cannot think of a reason why it would take that long. I would be sitting down with the stealer and asking him to talk me through the reason why it takes 4 weeks to put the car on a transporter drive onto a ferry drive off and prep the car.

So do they only inform you of the build date a few days before the actual date and If I'm expecting mine mid-end oct should I only expect a build date mid-end sept?

Thats what it looks like to me too (being in the same boat)! I'm gonna try and get a more definitive date tomorrow on a visit to the Stealer!

well they have updates through every tuesday and friday so he phones me or i phone him on a friday to get updates. i have known for about 3 or 4 weeks that the car will have been built by the 2nd week of september.

TC i thought this too. i will wait for him to come back with a date next friday and if he says its going to be another 4 weeks i will ask why cause germany isnt that far away really lol

May be something is going on at the factory, who knows when i got mine i placed the orderand recieved this in a e-mail.

The vehicle has been ordered, all as per your signed order and ordered the
same day with the dealer
The next coimmunication will be when the vehicle changes status to a factory
build date !

Once the vehicle is ordered the order status is awaiting factory build date
, nothing happens for between 3/4 weeks
Until the vehicle has a production build date, then the contacts are more
frequent as you will be advised when the vehicle is being built, awaiting
ship, arriving in the UK, then a registration number is issued, at this
point an insurance is required and delivery arranged.  The balance of the
invoice (paid directly to the dealer)to be made prior to delivery

then i got this exactly a month later.

Hi Thomas

Please see below the factory tracking number that is for your Golf

Kind Regards

Then this
2 days later
Hi Tom,

Good news.
Your order for the golf has been frozen for production week 15
this means that it should be built that week however it could still change either way
the next stage will be ' confirmed build week...' then it is definately to be built that week
generally it takes 3 weks to the dealer once in build

Cheers

Brian

Hi Brian,

The comm for the white gti is 087880

Then finally this

Dear Thomas,

Good news for the weekend
Your vehicle is now completed production and on ship to UK,

Should be with dealer approx 10 days
I will advise final details and registration number etc hopefully end next week

Kind Regards

Brian

I think the delay in yours is getting the build date slot or a frozen date when the car gets built. it only takes them 2 or 3 weeks to build, most of it will already be done. the 10 days to get it to me from the build complete stage actually took just 5 days
Please excuse me if this has confused you more it's frazzled my brain trying to copy and paste from different emails.

Mine was about the same as TC's, took 12 days from leaving the factory to being ready to collect at the dealership.

But to start with the dealer was also quoting upto 4 weeks from the build date.

My complete guess is.
Because of the Pirelli coming out to play VW are not willing to give out build start dates, i think this because they have to rely on supplier's getting them stuff that would normally be in stock I.E. seats made out of tyres.  no offence intended mr P.
This could be affecting normal GTI build slot's as well.
I am probably talking a load of Tosh though. but whats new
