you need to get a later v5 (170bhp) which has the sports pack option because standard the suspension is crap :P
dont get 150bhp one either. its slow

that might be a bit more than 7000 ???

get a vr6  ;D ;D

ive got a 1.8T, however if you really want a top dog perfect mega rapid minter go for the vr6, but if you want it to go for a bit of fancy climate, onboard comp, etc you would be able to get a decent 1.8T with the money, but it really does depend on how you use your car!!
I mean i like a mod or to, but i use my car for commuting an round the m25 to watford to see the gilf! But if i really wanted to have the speedster vr6 an look into every mod possible an show off at shows etc that's what i would of got! 8)

Its all better now very shiny, but now the windows have gone again! and shocks are squeaking like mice!!aarrgghhh

both stonkin motors, both quick im not mk4 biased just because i have a mk4!!!!, id test drive both to see and feel what you get for your money, go out there and have a look, if you have the money you have the choice!!

buy a decent mk1 for ?2000 and spend the other ?4000 on a 20vT conversion

what about brakes and suspension to stop and handle the thing!!! coil overs and a big brake conversion would be needed also for a pukka car!!

Many people underestimate the power of the v6, don't take any notice of the claimed 174bhp. Most will produce 190bhp+ AS STANDARD.
The 1.8T is a good engine but i would always go for the v6. It is a much more powerful unit.
If you want to spend big bucks, then turbo the v6, the 1.8T will never get near it  ;)

I love 6 cylinder cars, and have owned a few, I have a V6 SAAb at the moment, and would love to drop a V6 in the cab, but for the effect it would have on the handling. I would get a V6 over a 1.8T
I don't own this anymore - I just can't be arsed to change the picture

V6 in a mk2 isn't supposed to be a problem, not sure about mk1  :-\
Maybe try the 24v, all aluminium engine from the mk4  ;)
