Cam belt
« on: 28 August 2008, 12:29 »
I've read somewhere that the cambelt should be changed at 60k miles, or after 4 years - which ever comes first. The car is a 53 plate and has done just shy of 39k miles. I've checked the cars service history and it doesn't appear to have had the belt replaced

Surely, the belt should've been changed during it's last service at 30k in February?!?!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

its normally just an inspection to make sure the belt hasn't perished with age.. the tensioner and pulley -should- be good for 60,000+ miles regardless of age.

So as long as the belt is in good condition, there's no need to have it changed just yet then?

No urgent rush then

I'll get it checked out when it's next service is due (in around about 800 miles time).

lol, well i guess what VW say is advisory to change at either the mileage or age, down to you to do it when you feel it needs to be done, but better safe than sorry
