Relying on 'Miles To Empty'
« on: 18 August 2008, 13:04 »
I had to go to Essex yesterday which was 85miles each way, the miles to empty said i had 200miles, so thought i'd chance it even tho i had under half a tank, coming back i was 42miles from home and the needle was nearly in the red although the computer said i had 80miles, i was wary as i just wanted to put more diesel in, then at 30miles the 'please re-fuel flashed up' checked with miles to empty and it said something like 55miles, so put all my faith in the computer and although i was off the red it got me home and now says 5miles left

In all honesty my 115 never falls below half full, this was the 150 and as i dont know if i'm keeping it i didn't want to put diesel in it, plus i get cheap diesel so will be a waste.

It was nice having a blast in it tho on the m-way private road

I knew where the petrol garage was, so went to zoo and on way back just managed to make it there, the last 15 miles went down very quick.

Hmmm, is your Golf one of the last Mk4's to be made??  I have a 1.8 T GTI (2001 150bhp) and mine does not give miles till empty, it just says PLEASE REFUEL.  I belive that once this comes up if driven about 35-40mpg (which is a challenge but manageable) you should get about 30-35 miles out of the tank...any ideas???

You can enable miles to empty on the newer clocks using vag tacho
