Vacuum pipes question

Just a quick question(s) guys, the bit i've circled in red, what is it supposed to do? and the thick black pipe that comes of it  to the left if looking straight at it from the front of the car where does that go; to the brake servo?, how can I make sure this has connected at what ever the other end is connected too, I tried to have a look yesterday , but it just disappears somewhere in the area of the servo.


Also If anyones popping out to lunch and can check , if you start your car up & turn the throttle manually can you hear a rushing of air, is this a leak somewhere or is the just the throttles opening up & sucking in air?

yes the other end runs to a hole on the front of the servo.  you will hear a rush of air if you open the throttles

dont know if I have a vaccum leak, but if i start the car up with out touching the accelerator it idles lovely and starts on the button, as soon as i touch the accelerator pedal the car dies, i've replaced the cable makes no difference, I pulled the 5th injector out and its not spitting any fuel out on start up, what voltage should I be seeing at the blue plug & should it be constant?

5th inj isnt that important, doubt it would make the car stall.  sounds more like a fuel delivery or spark problem, unplug the main elewctrical plug from the fuel pump under the car and turn the key 1 click to check the in-tank lift pump is working.

yep I tried that this weekend and changed the fuel filter, the lifter pump is only a  slight hum incomparison to the main pump.........

yeah that sounds fine to me, have you touched the ignition system since you bought the ncar?  my gfs ax would stall when you tried to accellerate, new cap arm and sparks sorted it.

yep its got new bosch cap & rotor arm aswell as spark plugs......


it dies as soon as I move the throttle switch , but if i take it further so i start opening the throttle its ok, its only this area of dead space in between in the throttle movement... i assume that once i'm off the throttle switch the isv is no longer functioning?

hmm, have you set it up as per the 16v timing & idle/co guides?

yep many times, red lead unplugged on coil etc all with no change

also i've been looking at new fuel pumps as mines done over 230K miles, GSF list the same for 16 & 8v, but if you look on ebay sellers specifically will say on a 8v advert not for 16v?

the gsf one is a k-jet pump which fits both 8v & 16v k-jet models as they're the same, but not digifant models
ideally you want to get the fuel pressure checked to confirm if its the pump, if it was me I'd swap the fuel filter 1st as its easy n quick!
