thats a great way to have your delivered to you and what a good customer experience it would be.

....Exactly what I thought and I tried to collect my GTI from Wolfsburg but the UK bureaucracy was horrendous - Literally (not exaggerating!) half-an-inch of forms. Plus on arrival at a UK 'port of entry' I would have had to trailer my new car to a local DVLA office to register it before I could drive home on the UK leg of my journey home! Makes yer p!ss boil!! Utterly ridiculous! No wonder the countries of Europe laugh at the English.

A few months later I was going to Berlin for a weekend (which turned into 10 days!) anyway, and so took the car of course and visited the Autostadt - Wonderful place.

Only slightly better than a crowded, wet, dank, bleak Glasgow dealer forecourt then.....

I imported my own beemer from Holland a few years back, saved about £6k..mind you a totally different process from buying your car here and collecting from wolfsburg yourself.

Drove off the channel tunnel, no customs, just straight into old blighty.  I later had to present the type approval document and invoices, proof of travel etc then got it registered here, after of course paying the usual slice to the government heavies.

I still have me old dutch plates up in my den as a reminder of the only car deal where I managed to get the better of the barsteward stealers and of course a lovely weekend in the fair city of Amsterdam

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

I went for a ride in the Wolfsburg towers last month in the Glass Cube.  Not for vertigo sufferers as I found out lol.  Our english speaking guide was a little nervous too, first time she'd been to the top.

Is it hard to get to Wellsy, I'd like to visit there?

....Nope - Just off the fast E30 autobahn if travelling East and about 120 miles from Berlin. Deffo worth a visit and spend most of the day there.

It's an easy and fun drive, if you are going you may as well visit the Nurburgring too.   I think next time I'd fly though, (Fly to Hanover and get a taxi or train) as we didn't use the car at all for the few days we were there.  Spent all our time in the Autostadt.

....What!!?? And miss the joy of driving in Germany? I think it's one of the best countries in the world for driving - You only live once AFAIK.

Take a car and also visit Berlin - It's a great city, not to be missed.

Thanks Red, and yet again I find myself agreeing with you.
I love Germany, the people are v nice, the place is spotless compared to other parts of Europe, and their road manners are impeccible. I've toured there quite a bit and have done the Nurburgring, Baden Baden, Black Forest etc, but this is a place I think
is on my list next. I'm a bit of a WW2 enthusiast as well (where I live was occupied by the Jerries), I drive past concrete bunkers every day as a reminder of it.
I reckon my 2 weeks next year could be
D Day landings, (again)
Nurburgring (again)
Berlin (never been!)
Autostadt and possibly Ingolstadt
Austria
Eagles Nest
Bavaria then home.

As a seasoned traveller, what do ya reckon ?

Maybe I was tired of driving when I got to Wolfsburg lol.  It was at the end of a long tour.

Over 2 weeks in July,  we'd started from Rotterdam (via Hull) and gone to the Nurburgring, Baden Baden, Lake Konstance, Davos, Stelvio, Ingolstadt, Leipzig, Wolfsburg and back home with plenty of exploring in between.  2440 miles altogether.

I drive to the ring twice a year and we just decided that we'd fly if we did Wolfsburg again.  :undecided:
