This was the series of events for my friend:

forge DV and intercooler fitted > ECU went into limp mode > forge DV taken out and stock valve replaced, intercooler seals replaced > ECU still in limp mode > Superchip ECU upgrade installed > everything ok

Is this DV worth getting 'second hand' after being fitted for 24 hours....???

Sounds like someone didn't plumb the DV in properly and caused a fault, when the stock item was replaced and the ECU flashed for the remap it cleared the fault.

Definately worth getting, just don't get the same numpty to fit it.

Lol - thanks guys - never seen the product in the flesh or the fitments, but us anything cut to fit - would there be any problems if it has already been fitted (badly) to another GTI???

Going off at a slight tangent here, Stu mentioned the DV relocation for the 200PS engine.
Whether the Forge or an uprated standard DV is used I guess this would be a good modification and at the very least it would make it easier to periodically check the DV (or service it as required).

Is this much of a job and does it require many parts?

I've not replaced my DV yet because it is well hidden and have often thought that if I went to the trouble of changing it then it would be handy to relocate it too for ease of future access.

The job to relocate the DV is pretty simple, the parts required are -

1 x 06F 129 627 H - Intake Pipe (Only if you use the stock engine cover)

1 x 1K0 145 845 A - Pressure Hose
2 x N909 265 01 - Clamp
2 x N906 871 01 - Spring Type Clip
1 x 06F 145 751 - Intermediate Flange
3 x N101 961 03 - Bolt, Socket Head
1 x N015 082 13 - Hexagon Nut
1 x 06F 145 383 L - Holder
1 x 1K0 145 693 B - Air Circulation Pipe
1 x 1K0 145 770 P - Air Pipe

Wiring Parts

1 x 1J0 973 822A - 2 Pin Brown Flat Contact Housing
1 x 000 979 134 - Single Wire 1.0mm
1 x 1J0 973 722A - 2 Pin Black Flat Contact Housing
1 x 000 979 133 - Single Wire 1.0mm
2 x N 107 324 01 - Corrugated Pipe 4.5mm
2 x N 906 819 01 - Corrugated Pipe End Piece 4.5mm

If you use an aftermarket intake you will need to have the pipe modified to incorporate a stub pipe on the elbow above the turbo so that the returned air can feed back in there.  You will also need a blank for the existing DV in the turbo casing, I have a template for this and can help with that if required.

As you say it is perfectly located to keep an eye on the stock DV, I am currently using a stock DV with quite a lot of boost dialed in and so far no issues.
