GTI 8v Brakes

Hi i am really looking for some new brakes and i was wondering are the gti 8v front calipers good , or shall i wait out for the 16v one's then later buy new discs , pads and hose's ready to fit ,

I have  a 1.8 1992 driver , is there much work to fit the new calipers like carriers and different size's i have 15 inch wheels and im looking for some big discs to try and take all the room up ,

could these fit with abit of work ,  " VW PASSAT B5 1998 2.8 V6 SYNCRO PASSAT SALOON "  or the mk4 golf calipers ,

Swap out the hub, caliper, carrier, discs and pads complete for the 256mm items from a 16V, Passat 2.0 or a Corrado.

Even better go to 280mm items from the higher-power versions.

Keep OE spec for pads and discs.

You might as well go for the 280mm conversion straight off as once you get used to the 256mm you'll want the 280mm.
Save yourself time and money 

But before you go for the 280mm make sure they will DEFO fit behind your alloys.

early 8v had 239mm brakes same as drivers, but only difference were ventilated discs.
Calipes were all the same on the 239mm. If you are gonna get gti brakes get the 256 from a 16v.
Ive got gti vented discs and gti pads on my driver and its enough to stop it. You really dont need 256mm or more unless you have serious engine work done!

I'd fit 280mm if I could because there are alot of cars out there that can stop much quicker than we can with our piddly brakes and slamming into the back of someone because my brakes are crap is not worth it, might as well get the 280mm setup if you're changing them anyway.

the standard 8v GTI brakes arent very responsive! 

dont forget early 16v's had 239mm discs aswell!

some fast road pads are good addition!

aye on a 1.8 all you need is gti discs n pads to upgrade to gti spec (pads are thinner) much easier than a full brake swap and if you bleed it all properly it will be more than good enough for your carby.

i rang a local scrap yard up and they have the mk2 vr6 front calipers and said £100 without VAT , nothing else with them , is that abit exspensive ?

If i did want the VR6 calipers could you tell me what i need like , new hubs , carriers  for both the VR6 and the GTI 16v

i will buy some after market discs and pads , vented and drilled ,

for 1 thing there is no such thing as a MK2 VR6, unless its a conversion.  If its a MK3 then the hubs will be 5 stud, so no good to you!  Although the calipers n carriers will be ok provided they're 280s and not 288s.

You need:
Hubs
Calipers
Carriers
22mm master cylinder

For the hubs any 4 stud VW/SEAT with 256+ brakes will do you, Passat/MK3/Corrado/Ibiza etc etc then its just a case of either fitting 256 calipers/carriers or 280s + the master cylinder.
