Seat possbilities?
« on: 09 August 2008, 15:50 »
first things first i'm gutted all the posts have been lost as i've lost my project thread ! but it could be worse so thanks to jv for sorting things out

Anyway i've got standard seats in my 1.3 at the moment and they are very tired and all the foam bolsters in the back rest and the base are almost dead, coupling this with serious wear marks they're past there sell by!

so the quesion is what upgrades are possible? i was firstly thinking about the gti seats for the bucket seat type bolsters, then i got tempted by a few leather interiors for mk2s on the bay. but i know there are other possibilities like the corrado front seats with some minor mods to fit the rear bench? also the mk3 seats but the subframe has to be taken in 2 inches or something? what about the seat leon front seats? Any help welcome and minor/simple wleding work is not too much of a problem (well it shouldn't be unless my mate emigrates ).

I'm not too bothered at the moment about having mathcing door cards and matching seats but obvously it would be a bonus! What do you rekon is a viable option??

thanks

(damm i've lost the sig aswell )

i've had a search on the vw vortex and a bit more on here and the mk3 fronts seats dont actually need welding atall the foam can just be swapped over on the sub frames. would this be possible with the seat ibiza cupra seats below? i'm not sure if the back rest will slot into the mk2 base like the mk3 does?

SEAT ibiza seats will likely slot straight into your MK2, they're mostly based off the MK2 chassis.  Failing that you can do a base swap.  what year is your 1.3?
My mate has got Corrado seats in his MK2 and they're well nice!

Scirroco seats are a striaght swap too.

I think the MK1-3 Seat Ibiza fit straight in too, I'm looking for a lower 60/40 rearbench from a MK3 Ibiza GTi
like this.

And the upper section of a Seat Toledo 60/40 rearbench like this.

The Toledo seats from 1991 - 99 should fit ok.

scirocco seats are what you want because they have such low subframes.

corrado ones too, plus they look nicer.  however rocco seats can sometimes be found in a pattern that matches mk2 rear seats, so thats a plus.  rado rear bench requires metal work to be fitted properly, or if you're really lucky you can find rado recaro seats in the blue stripe pattern as found on late spec mk2s.  you can get mk3 seats in this pattern too

never realised corrado and scirocco seats shared subframes - thanks for the information. rear bench is not an issue as it will be getting lost.
