sideskirt glue
« on: 09 August 2008, 14:49 »
Hi, next week I am replacing my black GTI sideskirts with painted R32 ones, I nkow there are screws at each end and clips under but there is also a strip of double sidded tape/glue fitted to the skirt below the door.
I was wondering what people who had refitted there skirts had used to replace this as my VW are unable to get a partnumber and do not think you can buy it? I was thinking maybe clear silicon?
Red Robin I know you have changed yours?

....Hi Fin

The TTshop did mine when they were also doing the carbonfibre nose. They used a glue which needs 24hrs to cure and I drove over 200 miles home with masking tape holding it all tight! Phone 01234 853 225 - they are very helpful. Feel free to mention my name - Everyone knows me as RedRobin .

problem is I kinda want it to be semi perminant so I can change them back to standard original black plastic if I decide I dont like them painted or when I decide to sell which is why I was just thinking screws clips and clear silicon sealant. as this would just peal off.
any thoughts?

its used alot on marine Boat applications and would be really hard to remove once on there, do more damage if your planning to remove skirts later, not quite as hard as no nails but near as dam it.
