thanks for reply tt

to be a little more accurate. when changing gears, it makes a sound like the engine is engaging then re-engaging... (jumping like..) when changing gears sometimes.

if i was driving up to a speed bump in 3rd, slowed and changed to second, then it would make this noise...
if i was driving along at 50mph changing from 6th and to 5th  or visa versa, and lifted my foot off the clutch reasonable quick, it would also make the noise...

Hmmmm . . . I do think it might be your engine mounts.  Try and find a quiet stretch of road.  If you say keep it in second gear, ie don't change gear whilst doing this "test" (and turn off the stereo ) just accelerate hard up to relatively high engine revs (say 4-5k rpms) and then fully release the accelerator pedal - but do NOT touch the brake pedal.  Does it still make the clunking noise.  Try this test in a perfectly straight line, and also, if you can, when going round a bend (a deserted industrial estate at night time is best for this - or Milton Keynes roundabouts!).  Also, can you feel any thudding, even slightly, from the floor?

they said they actually changed the gearbox oil for *upgraded oil* (sure...)

Right, if I have worked out your car correctly, it should have a manual transmission with a code "KDU" (will be on your data sticker) - therefore the correct oil will be 2.3 litres of G 052 171 A2 - however, ETKA does NOT list any "upgraded" gearbox oil (though my version of ETKA is a little old, maybe 6 months out of date - must hunt for the upgrades - anyone speak Russian? ) - so it might be worth asking for a copy of the job sheet for this.

took a photo of what they said on my phone:

OK, looks like the stealer was having finger trouble too.   So it looks like I worked out the first two part numbers, but the third one just aint coming up with anything close!

BTW, what is www.rockmyspace ?  Sommat like photobucket?

I seem to get abit of a judder changing from 1st to 2nd. Never noticed this until the new engine.

Only way I can explain it is what feels like the engine moving making the whole car judder.
sorry but my vaux looks far better than the mk5 gti, thats why i bought it  faster too

Funny you say this, i have notice just reving up and taking my foot off gas, i.e slow/halted traffic up in front the noise has happened as the engine slows.... yeah i guess i can feel it slightly

from what I understand ETKA is like a parts catalogue for all vag group cars and ELSA is like a haynes manual as such telling you how to do the jobs. A friend of mine gave me a copy of both about 18 months ago and I've only recently realised what they are and how much use they can be. Sayin that they are still in the envelope upstairs he sent them in

How can we, mere mortals, obtain such treasure chests of information?
