Steve,

Have you only just started feeling this or has it been since day 1?

Either way I'd pop down to the dealers and get them to have a butchers at it

I will have a check of mine recently. It did feel clunky originally when new but as you learn to use it better it has been perfect. Will check later and let you know.

....You are able to go to any VW dealer you like and it's obviously best to have this noise checked while still under warranty.

You can also complain to VW UK if a dealer is being really unreasonable. VW dealerships are merely individual franchises and are contracted to meet certain standards set by VW UK.

I drove my GTI the other day (into a bodyshop to sort out that scratch) and didn't notice any noises particular to the gear lever/changing gears. But I was in a bit of a rush and so the engine roar masked any other noises.

Is it purely a sound? Is there any tactile feedback eg grinding or squeak when you change?

My June 07 manual Ed30 has always been smooth at gear changes and never makes any noise.
On a rare occassion when I try and put it into reverse sometimes it sticks and I have to take my foot off the clutch then try again - but I think thats normal for most cars?

I would definately suggest getting it looked at as its not normal
