300 ponies from a 1.6? Not likely. Anyway.. you could spend a couple of grand on exhaust/manifolds/cams/software and crack close to 280bhp.

After that you're talking forced induction. Storm's rotrex supercharger kit is on its way and will be about 6 grand plus fitting, which will give you upwards of 450bhp.

C2 motorsport do a single turbo kit (VF engineering are still working on theirs) which makes 400-ish but those are both american companies so you'll have to do some fiddling to get the downpipe working on a RHD, plus their ECU software won't be suitable for your car so you'll need a custom remap after that. Cost is around $9000 U.S so add import costs to that.

HPA do a 450bhp turbo kit but its telephone numbers - approaching 20 grand once you add the uprated brakes and clutch (which are a necessity in a F.I R32)

JBS do a 550+bhp twin scroll turbo and costs around 12-13 grand, although that is a fully built engine and they're soon to be working on a lower powered (350-ish) conversion that retains standard engine internals.

Or you can just leave it as it is and be happy that you don't look like a muppet behind the steering wheel of a scabby vauxhall corsa

not sure how much more bhp a bigger turbo will give him? thats alot of money for turbo kits etc :undecided:

the thing is though i am the one who felt like a muppet losing to a corsa!

Comparing standard and tuned is not really a great comparison. I would go the full hog and go for the turbo! Well if he is having one why shouldnt you??

tbh I think if it was anything other than a drag race you probably would have had him. The understeer on that must be terrible!

p.s. throw a few bricks in his boot the next time when hes not looking

300bhp out of a 1.6 isnt impossible.
Some guys witht the new minis are running over 300bhp from a 1.6 and some have gone further, producing up to 600bhp. All running the stock gearbox .

LOL not stupid at all. They run challenge car suspension, huge brakes with carbontech pads, diffs etc. The cars handle the power very well, the one that has 600bhp is drag only but most of the ones around the 300-400 mark are very very good on track.

I would imagine the 300-400 cars really suffer in day to day driving. I take it you're talking about the MKI Eaton charged cars and not the newer turbo'd MKII's.

Either way though new minis are pretty decent and a lot of the oldschool boys very quickly realised that creating good tuning kits for the newer cars was going to make them a lot of money. Some of the guys have ben tuning cars since the 60's and really know their stuff.

i should have thought about it before i had ago with him really to spair the imbaressment he's running the same bhp as an astra vxr but with around 30ft/lb more torque.. and he's probaly a fair bit lighter than an astra!

im not being a vauxhall fan but to those who is slagging it i wouldnt untill you go in one like this.. it did get the power down suprisingly good and i dont know where this it understeers like a b!tch has come from (maybe because the astra and vectra dont handle) but belive me he did sh*t me up on the corners and it did stick/corner well..

300bhp would be achivable if hes running 240 with the stock turbo! god know what turbo the upgrade will be and what sort of boost it will make

i do respect the car after today.. if i was to go for a small hot hatch i think i would definetly go for the corsa
