Speaker upgrade
« on: 30 July 2008, 12:55 »
Hey,

Before the forum went tits up I was posting about my upgrade.

I removed all the standard speakers from my mk3 gti and put component speakers into the front doors, I built the tweeters into the speaker grill on the dash and hid the crossover. I am going to put some pic's up of my tweeter build as i think they look great, I am just waiting for the covering to arrive.

I have also put some coaxle speakers into the parcel shelf, I have only put these in a temporary position as I am going to angle them a bit to get the sound to go to the front a bit better.

I am waiting on a amp to arrive to run these four speakers from, which I am going to hide in the pasenger under the dash.

All the speakers I am using are blaupunkt transparent series so i am also waiting for some LED's to arrive so I can illuminate the speakers from behind ( what do people think of this?? )

Next on my list is two 10inch subs and amp for the boot, I have 2 kids so need all the space I can get in the boot ( any idea's would be great ).

I would like to get hold of a Blaupunkt sub ideally a transparent series one, I have not had much luck so if anyone knows where to get one from?

Thanks for reading.

Try these guys for the sub - they don't seem to have it on the website but as they specialise give em a ring....

I will shortly be fitting comps to the front of my mark 3 and was wondering how you got the speaker cables through the block connector in the door?  I haven't really looked on mine yet (to busy fixing other stuff!!) but is there an easy way of getting through?

Hey,

To get the wires through the cable connector, there is a hole with a tube going through which splits in two ( I assume this is somthing to do with the central locking?? But not sure? ) I drilled this out so that the connectors could get through, easy!!!! Just got to be carefull as the drill snacthed on the plastic and nearly went through some loom.

Hope this helps.

if you cannot find the blaupunkt sub
i would reccomend this pioneer sub
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/popup_image.php?pID=8643&option=extra&sort_order=1
this is the 10" version they do an 8 and a 12" version aswell it is 250 rms
this is only 3" deep so you could actually have a custom box made to fit in the rear passenger wheel arch and not lose any of your boot space for the kiddies pushchair etc
i recently fitted one for a customer in a fibreglass box i made for him and it sounded really nice
the advantage of this is it goes into a very small (0.5cuft) box so is very discrete

As you can see in the last couple of pics, I have put LED's behind the tweeters, I will upload some pics of these working in the car shortly.

I would be interested to hear what peope think so far though.

Thanks for looking

I would be interested to see these finished, can't see the actual speakers in the pics you've posted?

Looks like you did a good job though!
