The modifying has commenced!
« on: 29 July 2008, 22:19 »
After a couple of months of ownership I finally stepped onto the slippery slope of modifying.

Initially I was sold on the Revo map, but after having a few issues with my dealer getting some delivery defects (and damaged they caused during a repair attempt) resolved they offered the services of their sister company, Richter Sport, to provide a remap at a very good price  as part of a compensation deal.

After driving their demo standard GTI for a few days while mine was in for the final repairs I was very impressed with the overall improvement in the drivability, I also did some research into the origin of the map and found it's basically the standard superchips one.

Also after speaking to my dealer found that they are far more accommodating towards warranty claims where the parts could be affected by the remap than I thought they would be.

So last Wednesday the remap was applied and my I initial impression is WOW!

The power delivery is very smooth and the pull especially in third is just awesome. Also now I have returned to a more normal driving style mpg is up by just over 3mpg on average on my daily commute.

An ITG Pro Filter also now in and the Carbon Fiber intake (ebay version) has just landed at Standstead acording to Fedex tracking.

Also been in contact with APS in Brackley about a Milltek as the next mod!

FWIW I pay £400 for fully comp on my Edition 30 .... 43 years old, no points, etc.

To remap my current insurer isn't interested .... and after looking on here I got a quote from Adrian Flux.  They wanted £1200
I tried Greenlight and they wanted £500.

I have yet to modify the car but when I do I think Greenlight will be getting a call as opposed to Adrian Flux !

....You're definitely not missing out - The stock GTI is an excellent car with great performance. There's always something faster etc no matter what you've got. The trick is to enjoy what you have

Yep this forum is very dangerous to your wallet!

To add the remap to my policy with Virgin cost £38 (£15 of which was an admin fee) for the 2 months I had remaining. So effectively £140 a year increase.

im 24, remap and full milltek on ed30, direct line i have found rather friendly with mod's, £1100 a year for stock insurance and now with mod's is £1300 which I don't think is too bad for my age and points, I spoke with adrian flux as loads recommed them for mod insurance and tbh they were a joke no far off £2.5k
