Oil consumtion on GTI
« on: 25 May 2008, 20:20 »
Just got home tonight when the check oil level warning light came on my 07 GTI. Not very impressed as it was only serviced in february and has since done under 4K miles. I wasn't aware that they used so much. Has the dealer not put enough in and should I complain?

if your not loosing it externally, ie sheet under car overnight to see if you have a leak, if not, id be back to the dealer as they dont burn 3 litres of oil in such a short time, either that or your doing lightyears in mileage.

Like Phil said, they can use a little but not that much!

Rang up dealers today to query oil useage. Service told me that they do use around 1 litre of oil per 700 miles, they then changed their mind and told me it was actually 700 km(even less)! Going to have to buy some oil today, not happy

Top it up and monitor what it does, then you can be sure.  If you have VAGCOM you can check the oil level to get a reading in mm too.

If you need some Costco is cheapest if you have a card - 3x1L bundle, works out about £7 per litre.

Cheers neg, my costco card just expired! Also my nearest store is about 25 mile away. Going to have a trip to halfords, castrol edge seems to be the choice. I'll keep an eye on the useage. Cheers

....The Mk5 GTI is well known for drinking oil in her first few thousand miles/km. Don't worry too much - She'll settle down. She's a bit of a slapper....Likes to have a drink to get herself going!
