Exhaust front pipe/down pipe

Hello chaps - tis continues to rattle like a git between 2750 and 3250 rpm in all gears.

Have had a go at heat wrapping, exhaust gum and attempting to dremel the heat shield bit off - all to no avail.
So what's its official name and what price a replacement?

If only turning up the twisty button would work.

It's really spoiling the car! I've a 1991 205 gti that rattles like buggery, so you'd think I'd be used to the noise. I forgive the French as they made it out of those tinfoil containers you get fried rice in, but as the German motor doesn't make any other noises apart from that bloomin' buzz I want it sorted quick.

So a proper VW name and an appropriate price would be greatly appreciated, before I'm forced to go to kwikfit! Aaaaaah.

Mine rattles exactly the same. Takes a bit away from the sound of the exhaust, but not been able to pin point exact where it rattles. Not yet anyway.

Personaly i cant see how the downpipe would rattle, you sure its not the heat shield that covers the manifold at the top? they tend to rust off,  its the one where the hor ait feed joins to go to the air box.

I would think it was the heat shield, but not sure where yet. If you have the bonet open and rev the car it doesnt always happen. Happens more once you get moving. I will have a look later though to see what i can see while the car is cold
