Getting fed up now...
« on: 20 May 2008, 16:24 »
My 56 plate GTi has been back to the dealer five times now to get the locks/alarm looked at and they are failing to fix it.

Basically, if I lock it with the key (blade, rather than remote) then unlock it, the alarm goes off as soon as I get in to the car.  Effectively I am unable to use the car without the remote - it simply won't disarm the alarm with the blade.

Because there is no error appearing on the diagnostics, my local dealer claim no fault found despite me demonstrating it to them and indeed them activating the issue themselves too.  WTF!?!

The lock mechanism also suffers a problem I've seen others have, that being the door LED remaining on solid red sometimes when unlocked with the remote. To me it all looks like there's a problem with the latch mechanism but they refuse to change it as it doesn't show on the diags.

Can anyone help shed light on this?

thanks

That's what the dealer's just told me!

Had to phone them to hear it too; they sent the car back to me without bothering to call me to tell me that yet again their systems have been unable to spot an easily demonstrable system.  Honestly it's driving me insane; I can show them the problem happening but because the diags don't see it it doesn't exist!

Really low standard of service on each visit to this particular dealer so I'll take it to their sister branch in a town near Lanark and see if they're any better.

I think its Verve you are talking about... I have heard nightmares about them, AC in Jordanhill Glasgow are p1sh as well, avoid.  Try advantage Stirling, I hear that they are better.

Am I right in thinking that the fault manifests itself thusly... you enter the car with the key blade and the alarm goes off? so the use of the actual physical key doesnt disarm the alarm?

I will try this myself later. Anyone else?

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

firstly why would you want to use the blade, whats up with the remote?

secondly, my door LED comes on and stays on, does it about once a month, common fault, but not detrimental.

Coming from MK4 land, the alarm being set of by opening the car with the blade is normal.  Even tells you in the manual, you just turn the ignition on to cancel it.  Think thats a normal kind of set up with other manufacturers too.....

How quickly are you opening the door after you have unlocked it, I know from experience that if you unlock with the remote and open the door quickly it will set it off.
