Tyre recommendations?
« on: 18 May 2008, 22:15 »
Hi Everyone,

Came across this board for the first time yesterday and thought I'd join the fun

Front tyres on my beloved GTI are due for replacement, and I wondered what brand you would recommend?

My car has only done 14,000 miles and the Continentals are needing replacing.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Iv got to say that my Goodyear Eagle F1s have been brilliant so far. There was a test in EVO magazine on tyres and they used a MK5 GTi for the it. Goodyears won it, AutoCar also did a test and again the Goodyears won so id have to say they are the best, its all a matter of opinion and person prefrence really:

....A Warm Welcome to the forum, Suzi - Once you're in the Mk5 forum it's very difficult to get out!

Another vote here for Goodyear Eagle F1's. I've had Contis and Bridgestone Potenzas and find the F1's best regarding both grip and longevity. I'm soon changing to F1 Assymetrics.

Remember to put your deeper treads on the rear and not to mix tyres on the same axle.

Welcome to the MKV forum Suzi

RedRobin speaks words of wisdom

You could always try Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's if you want to save pennies and still have a good tyre.

IMO you will not notice much difference between Goodyears, Mitchelins and Conti's unless you hoon around like a mad woman everywhere
