Whats that Dimming thing called around the Wing Mirrors?

Is that black thing there for the dimming or is it there as part of the heated wing mirror function, thats what i want to know?

you were supplied with the wrong passenger mirror.
Whoever supplied it probably didn't specify the MY correctly hence you got a later version non-dimming mirror.

but if they are discontinued (early 2006) that would mean if you order it from VW then they would only supply you with the non-dimming current version wouldnt they as they havent produced the dimming version since 2006....?

i doubt thats true, they havnt produced the mk4 for over 4 years yet you can still source parts for them

Had a look at mine this morning (07) - I have Lux pack (folding mirrors) but don't appear to have this plastic surround on the mirror (drivers side)!

I had those on my 1st GTi ,05 laser blue one and that had the luxary pack with has side dimming mirrors with the black surround.The mirrors without these ie, like my 07 GTI AND edition 30 didnt have lux pack 2 fitted and DONT have them. They are great at night and wish my ed30 had them.

so can i just order that black bit that goes around the mirror or will i have to order a whole new wing mirror?

I have the black strip round both my mirrors, not sure if they dim though - sure I have seen the drivers side dim before, I will check them tomorrow in the daylight as its easier to test.

its easier at night time. i doesnt do anything during the day

Does it not work off the rear view - in which case you just cover up the light sensor on the back of the mirror and because of the daylight it dims - I'll have a look later.

get somone to turn on their headlights to see if the side mirrors dim the same as the internal rear view and then your know

So whats meant to be in the Lux pack (without hijacking the thread)- thinking I've been done here - told it had Lux Pack and mirrors definately fold in.

Wonder if the side mirror has been replaced at some point
