Guess you'll just have to put this down to experience. Pointless getting wound up about it. If you haven't contravened any road traffic legislation and your driving didn't warrant being done for due care or recklessness, then there's no way you could get done. Winding up plod is another matter though

Don't forget if you try to leg it, they will simply check your plate and arrive at your home address. Some cars have video and there are plenty of CCTV cameras about these days (public and private systems). Not worth the hassle IMHO.

Yeah, what Cass said, if he was coming the other way he would have had your plate looking back on the CCTV in his car (which more and more have these days, and they will def have it if their traffic police).

Unless you're mad or lucky, they almost always will catch you.

Don't forget - you're on your own - they can call in as many friends as they like - and they have toys like the stinger

3 times previously they have tried and failed, so i think I will take my chances. im not mad so im not going to risk my life but if they aint got my plate and im a stones throw from home then im gonna punch it. Esp as i always have the batcave at the ready

on a positive note, if they did have cctv on board at least it would mean a new clip of a top golf on Roadwars (sky three). Getting fed up with the all the repeats recently on freeview :D

There are good and bad in every job - after all police officers come from society .....

The caution as you get out is standard and not a scare tactic - something the law now requires .....

I am a traffic cop - but like most in traffic I love cars and am realistic about 'nice' cars, roads and drivers

I got stopped a couple of weeks ago driving my dads 20 year old Metro (whilst waiting for the Ed 30 to be delivered !).  The guy who stopped me (100m from where I had just finished work!) was polite but kept me waiting for the checks to come back as he didn't think I had insurance.  I just wanted to get home but at least he was polite.

As for making off .... not hugely advisable - it's not just Stinger you have to worry about but TPAC .... i.e. ramming/blocking of your pride and joy.  I am sure most people on here wouldn't consider it - I hope !!

If you are not happy with the way a police officer talks to you or they are plain out of order with their manner - and I would stress that you haven't 'asked' for it ..... then complain - simple as that.  All complaints no matter how minor are dealt with and the officers Inspector will get seriously fed up if he keeps getting complaints about an officers attitude to deal with .....

....Anyone who tries to do a runner from a police car is frankly stupid and deserves to lose their licence and more. The reality is that the police have all sorts of means at their disposal and will catch you sooner or later even if it's another day and then the charges against you will be a whole lot worse. If you think that the officer is in the wrong, just report it all afterwards through the appropriate channels.

Is it true traffic cops turn a blind eye to cars going 80 MPH on a sensible road such as a dual carriageway?

....It's not just about the type of road (dual carriageway) is it. Style of driving (tailgating for example) and traffic density are just two of all the other factors. Wet road?
