hii new here.

i bought a 1.8 golf gti recently and need to change the front pads.. however the pads i bought are different shapes/sizes. one of them is a long thing pad and the other is a fatter one.

i dont spose anyone would happen to know which pad is on the outside of the disc and which is on the inside would they?

thx for any help

They should be 14mm thick on the front and the same size I think.

there ok. the thinner one, should be the smaller one (verify this) and the thinner one goes on the inside of the disc. the long fatter one goes on the outside.

correct me if im wrong.

i think the fatter one goes on the inside as it gets more pressure from the piston when pressing the brakes but could be wrong as i helped my mate change the pads on his mk2 golf 1.6 driver about 6 months ago

I had a look in my Haynes manual and couldn't see anything about them being different.
Maybe they are the correct ones, phone up GSF and say you bought a set from them and ask if they are meant to be like that

The gti pads I had, they are different inside and outside, the way to check is whip the old ones off

I'm sure the wider ones go on the piston side, the others wont sit properly.

have fun, don't round the ally key bolts off! I'd buy some new ones to go back in, if I was you!

ok thanks will try them that way then.. im going to do it tomorrow instead.. i decided im too lazy :P

yeh they were rounded off before i took them out.. had to take the disk off brake disc off to get it out. bought 2 incase the other side is fooked aswell.

if i can get it done tomorrow it "should" be road worthy :D

only paid £150 for it with a bent wishbone.. replacement came with it and i replaced that in a couple of hours.

not bad for a superchipped, remapped gti will a full custom £250 exhaust system.. cant wait to get it going
