Are they noisy all the time or just when you start up or during warm up?
When was the oil last changed? What oil filter do you have fitted?

you could try some engine flush at next oil change....
or replace the whole lot at ?7 each. and you need 8 of them..........

have you taken it for a blast down the duel carrageway
do you high rev the car........
most people drive slow and dont rev the engine high so the oil never really covers the tappets this is what wears them out quicker! lack of oil........

Maybe worth getting the oil pressure checked.
You don't need to rev the engine for the oil pressure to pump up the tappets, so slow or fast driving will make no difference  :)

To test the tappets for wear,
Run engine to operating temp
Remove cam cover
turn engine over till the cam lobe on the tappet you want to check is pointing upwards
press down on the tappet
the tappet shouldn't move more than about 1mm
(I think)

Better late than never ::)

What you said is correct 'vr6 the only difference being that the tolerance is actually a lot smaller: 0.1mm or 0.04" in old money

Hope that helps.......
