URGENT!! Oil Light, Car wont start

well, this has now happened 3 times in the last 24hours.

1st time, was doing a 3 point turn and the car cut out with no warning and refused to start, turning over fine, just not starting. about 30mins later, got it running by pushing it down a hill and jump starting it in 2nd.

later the same night, was sitting speaking to a friend with engine idling fine and then engine cut out. again, wouldnt start, but took an hour this time...

however, about 3am this morning, it cut out when i was going at 60mph but this time i spotted the oil warning lamp just before it cut out, not flashing, just ON. luckily i was on a straight and there was no other traffic behind me, but the car completely refuses to start now

have had to abandon it 20miles away and i NEED my car up and running by 1pm.

Any ideas guys and gals? Its a 95 1.6. car has been majorly holding back lately as i've seen described in so many threads now, and i'm pretty sure its over-fueling, because 8.5mpg on a 1.6 Mk3 CANNOT be normal!!!

change the ECU relay to start

yeah, thats first plan of action. waiting for dingbros to open and phone them up. i know it isnt the fuel pump relay as there is plenty fuel coming through. if ECU relay doesnt sort it, hall sensor is next. trying to get hold of OBD2 cable for vagcom, cant find mine

just wondered if anyone could say for certain what problem is from what i've described. 8.5mpg cannot be normal... as for why i'm certain car is over-fueling... still has car but exhaust fumes reak of petrol and if giving the car a "good run", when i stop and look under the car, cat is glowing orange

Could well be a hall sensor fault, speed sensor or crank sensor. Vag com is required to be sure though. Unlike my vectra which I can diagnose the ECU using just a paperclip lol

ah, the VH paperclip test and count the engine management flashes... i had a corsa before my golf 

EDIT - do VWs have a safety mechanism which disables the coil if there's a "serious fault" ?? because there's no spark coming from it at all, i assumed thats a safety thing and had heard ECU relay faults and hall sensor faults can cause this?

yeah, had seen that Len cheers, thats why i'm thinking its either ECU relay or Hall sensor. got to about 6th/7th page of that thread and gave up

cleaned the Throttle body recently?
Mine used to stink of petrol when revving stationary until i had a good clean out.
