Waste Gate Worry
« on: 30 April 2008, 00:22 »
Hav a '05 gti, you all know the sound of the turbo components when the car is building pressure and when you clutch it around 3k rpm the wastegate releases its pressure (wooush) sound, my one is suddenly very loud wooush when building up pressure and hardly any release (clutch) sound, any body have this issue before?? I got a software upgrade about 2 weeks ago but this thing only came on 2 days ago, overnight ... cheers for any advice..

I had this whoosh noise and i was sure that the standard valve did not make that.
It was a split divertor Valve or more commonly known as the dump valve.
you should get it checked, on the vw VAS system it should show an error code 'turbo boost pressure exceeded low limit'

Yeah, from GIT's description it sounds just like yours did at the RR Joe.

History repeating itself, we were having exactly the same problems with the mk4 years ago. A cheapo fix in those days was to use a standard item from the S3, although I'm not sure that the current S3 dv is any tougher than the GTI ones these days.

edit: actually i seem to recall having a conversation with teutonic tamer on here about this issue, might be worth digging up with the search button.

Window up or down, its loud enough to hear over low volume radio noise.. Have it booked in for a check up next thursday, if I need 2 replace the valve should I get an uprated aftermarket one?? If so what is the best make??
