Audi s4 engine
« on: 21 April 2004, 13:49 »
Just wondering...Will an 2002 Audi s4 2.7 V6 bi(twin)turbo engine fit into a mk4?? If it does, does it fit straight in?

Thanks

I don't think so because the engine *I think* is mounted longitudinally  rather than transverse like golfs, so the gearbox, clutch and diff are all in different places.

hope this helps

surely you could mount it transversley though, i would hav thought you could mount it to a v6  gearbox. But plumbing in the two intercoolers and extra cooling needed for two turbos, mights be hardwork.  If VW can shoehorn in the 3.2 into a golf the2.7 biturbo must go.

After all, Cosworth lumps are fitted long ways and they fir them transversley in RS turbo bays. why are you thinking about it??

Just a thought, I know someone who's selling one. Was wondering how it would go in. Would be nice tho. I'll have to find out properly if it will work or not.

I doubt the S4 engine will go in as it is a 'proper' V6, as in a 90 degree V6.
The reason VW designed the VR6 is it is a 15 degree V so will fit in the golf engine bay.
90 degree V's have 2 cylinder heads.
The VR6, or V 'Reheinmotor' 6 which roughly translates to in-line V has only a single cylinder head with the bores in line but offset to each other. The crank and conrods being in a 15 degree configuration.

golf vr6 pretty much said what i was going to say but also to add if you try and put a V6 gearbox onto the S4 engine it won't work as the gearbox will be in the wrong place. it will end up out of the NSF wheel arch.

I think a better bet would be to mount the engine in the car as designed longitudnally and then add 4wheel drive, this eliminates the gearbox, driveshaft diff problem. Even then i'm not totally sure it would fit this way.

hope this helps

Don't blame you, you'd pretty much have to strip the car to a shell and do lot of cutting to get all the running gear in there.
Nothing's impossible though, just ask the guys who squeezed a big block chevy V8 into a Fiat 125, lol.

there was a bloke on max power a few years ago who put a VR6 (golf mk3) engine in his LUPO! he said he had to get new engine mounts and driveshafts and also uprate the suspension.

still i don't know if the money he spent is worth all the respect he would have got!

have a nice day
