ABS rear speed sensor
« on: 16 April 2008, 23:32 »
need to replace the right rear speed sensor but have a couple of questions...

1. on eurocar parts website there are a few options varying in price from £10-£50, which one do i need?
2. i have changed the front one before, is this one just the same procedure?

cheers
Scott

P.S its for a '97 16v gti

I just paid £16 for a front one at GSF, best to go in and ask them for your make and model etc.

Rear works exactly the same but is harder to get out due to access.... I would remove the rear disc if you know how makes it so much easier

yeah the best technique seems to be aim a flat blade roughly in the direction of the sensor and smack like f**k till its in 50 bits and there is a nice hole waiting for the new one lol

There's a lot of guides about for mk3 abs sensor removal but they're all a bit of an effort..

This is the way I do them..

When you have the sensor retaining bolt out, poke a screwdriver through one of the wheel bolt holes in the hub (one of the square ended screwdrivers that a ratchet head fits onto) and if you spin the hub around (car jacked up in gear with handbrake off) then you can feel the ABS sensor in there! Swift knock of a hammer and it's out! No breaking bits up, no removing calipers or discs and takes half the time
