Thats right Gaz.

Auto lights gives you 'coming home' lights which means they stay on for 40secs I think it is when switching off the car, also when you unlock the car if its dark the lights will also come on for the same time - I still find people telling me I have left my lights on when walking away.

Auto also will switch the lights on if your wipers go onto full speed (assuming heavy rain) and also whenyou go over 80ish MPH for over 20seconds or so, the switch off when you slow down under 40ish MPH for more than 2mins I think it is - I say ish as the figure is a kmph.

I've had the same issues Manu! Some mornings in bright sunshine they come on, and stay on, other when it's darkish and rainy they don't come on  They do seem to be a little flawed, but im expecting this to be down to variance and tolerances VW have to build into this kind of device  :undecided:

Don't get me started on the 'auto' wipers! There worse than the lights

....It's not a good idea to switch to Auto-lights for road use - They don't necessarily switch on and off when you expect them to - Shadows on tree-lined roads for example - And they can give entirely the wrong information to other drivers :- "No, you shouldn't have pulled out, I wasn't flashing you to do so!!"

Suddenly switching on the lights at 80/86 whatever is crazy!

I only use them to enter my garage. I use auto-wipers though but am always prepared to manually override as needed.

I agree this function is totally crap IMO..previously I had an Audi A6 with the same feature...however it actually worked as it should.

I took this to the dealer for the over sensitivity issue and not switching off.  However they wanted the car for 2 days! I dont think they are faulty, they are just crap tbh.

Also agree with RR, they can give wrong signals to other drivers, I have had a couple of instances where people think they are being flashed....as a signal or IN ANGER....beware of their use.

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

I agree with both of the above. Last year a guy in front of me stopped at the junction (I had been following the same route as him for about 3 miles, through tree lined roads) and shouted what was the matter. I replied nothing mate, why? He then said Why do you keep flashing me? I then apologised and said it was the goddam awful f**ing auto light function. I haven't used them since :embarassed:
