Hi, who has changed their belts?

My steering is bad in the wet, while turning the wheel fast, the wheel jumps all over the place.
Today in the dry when turning left while stationary it squeals quite loud.

I will be checking the fluid tomorrow, but any heads up before I explore?

Thanks

i had the same in very wet conditions a few weeks back. when turning right at roundabouts i was losing the powersteering!!

now it's dry i'm getting a squeal and slight judder when turning on full lock (or close to) when parking etc.

think i need to renew mine as it's been on at least 7 years!!!

hummm when mine did this i tightened up the belt to the max but still no joy. under closre inspection my pulley/wheel on the power steering pump was loose as hell so I had to replace it, now its fine.luckily i found a guy on ebay selling his for eight pounds form a car that had only done around 55k...bargain!  anyhoo for the safety aspect check that when your next tinkering down there just incase. It's a horrible feeling your steering wheel is not moving/locking up when your on a round about in the wet!!!!

:embarassed: yeah had to, was like the mentioned symptoms when I bought my car. Instead of trying to fix it I thought I'd shove one that works in her!

That link is very informative.  :nerd: love this forum.

managed to tighten my PAS belt by trial and error using that double nut/toothed thing (although i did somehow manage to chew-up a couple of the teeth but i don't think it's a problem?)

i'll see if that cures it if not new belt time.

didn't notice that the pulley on the pump was loose (like one of you chaps had) so hopefully the pump is ok...
