PAS belt help
« on: 10 April 2008, 00:12 »
Hi, who has changed their belts?

My steering is bad in the wet, while turning the wheel fast, the wheel jumps all over the place.
Today in the dry when turning left while stationary it squeals quite loud.

I will be checking the fluid tomorrow, but any heads up before I explore?

Thanks

i think you can get a splash guard for the belt, so it dont do that in the wet.

I tink the belt is about a tenner, if that. Not changed it myself, but im sure a handy person, or a local garage would do it pretty cheap mate.

the belts about £4 and with a new belt you dont really need the splash gaurd... I now replace mine every service time (yearly) as the splash gaurds are rare

I've got a VW splashguard (still not fitted) and just had to fit a new PAS belt when it snapped, belt cost £3 and was a dead simple job to do, 2 bolts

Yep, one small belt right at the bottom on it's own, Tension you just check with your finger. SHould be able to pull it a fingers width from it's original position when in place

i had the same in very wet conditions a few weeks back. when turning right at roundabouts i was losing the powersteering!!

now it's dry i'm getting a squeal and slight judder when turning on full lock (or close to) when parking etc.

think i need to renew mine as it's been on at least 7 years!!!

To be honest it's worth doing every few years anyway as they only cost £3
