hmmm i had a kinda similar issue with mine recently the engine would cut out when the revs dropped (i thought it was not idling at first). I bought a cheap diagnostics lead and software from ebay called vag com and plugged it into my car which gave me a fault code regarding the engine speed sensor (aka crankshaft impulse sender). Im glad to say that fixed it and im back on the road and it was all DIY without paying any garages loads of cash i aint got.

I would recommend you get one and see what comes up. Its worth a shot if your stuck.

hiya mate...
i had the same problem with my 8v, i had a flat spot when i put my foot down, also it would cut out now and again but would start back up.
The problem was a pipe comeing off the top of the head going down to the bottom end, it had a hole in it about the size of a 10p peice.
Its now running like a dream with no problems

Hope this helps!!!
