Sky high oil temp HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: 06 April 2008, 12:30 »
Yesterday my car started overheating. I'm doing ATF flush at the moment, but yesterday and today the car overheats quickly and stinks, the coolant was boiling over and there was smoke coming out of the rocker cover the oil temp was up to 160 and buzzing, any ideas? Dont wanna go to the crap garages around by me and be ripped off.
I did wonder if doing the ATF flush might have clogged something up to make it overheat, the engine was quite dirty before.

Cheers

Cripes! Someone on here will be able to confirm this, but at 160 degrees I think you'll might have to get the head removed and skimmed due to likely warping. My guess would be head gasket failure or your oil pump has gone.

Sorry to hear that fella.

did the oil light come on straight after the oil change? low oil pressure? as said above, could be a knackered oil pump

I don't think a semi will give the same results

Apparently its not too bad if the sump comes off okay, but you need to properly diagnose the problem before you go wading in.

The oil flush can block the pick up for the oil pump. Remove the sump and take a look, the oil pump is not that expensive so is worth changing it anyway while you are there. Gscp's do them, think i recall them being about £15-20. very easy to change, then just pray then you havn't done any damage.

this would perhaps explain why, when my oil was flushed and changed 2 weeks ago, we couldnt get oil pressure for a while?

I don't think its that - You can run the engine without the cooler on a 16v temporarily (e.g. if its leaking), so it must only give you a few extra degrees worth of cooling, say between 5 and 10 degrees (a guess!).

Let me get this right, you've flushed you engine with an "automatic transmission fluid flush"... Please clarify!
