Oil question

As you may or may not know i have a 1.8T and the oil is just above the min level, as i bought it second hand im not sure what oil is in it. Do i need to change the oil completely as i'm under the impression it's not a good idea to mix oils? Or can i just top it up with a good grade? If so what grade? Thanks from the total novice!

how long have u had the car? when was it last serviced? id service it now and i think the oil for a 1.8t is 10w-40 or could be 5-40.

5-40 is what i use in my 2.0l

Ha dthe car about a month, the thing that worries me is it was last serviced just before i got it and it's needing oil already!?

Can you find out what thay put in last time??

Castrol magnetic 5/40 but 10/40 will be fine.

Get the oil filter from vw you will find thay are cheaper than elsewhere (Well thay are in devon lol!)

If you can find out what grade is in there just top her up will be fine - just keep an eye on her

nah, can't find what they put in last time unfortunately. Ill just keep an eye on it, got no warning lights at the mo so thats good! Ill buy the oil and filter if i need to and take it to my local mechanic to do. Aint got no tools!  :embarassed:

Sounds like a plan! How have you been driving - hard? Its normal for turbo engines to use some oil especially when being driven hard

Well i went from a lupo 1.4 to this beautiful driving machine so at first yeah! You could say "screwing" would be the appropriate adjective! ha! calmed down a bit now though so im gna have another check tmrw and see how its looking. Thanks for the advice!
