say i want a valver with aircon.  I have two example to chose from, same age, same milage, same colour, same condition, but ones got aircon.  std is up for ?3500, with aircon is ?3700.  Which do you reckon i'll buy?

If people want somthing, they'll attribute a value to it and pay accordingly.  Bet you paid more for your GTI than a GL in the same nick would have cost.

different models?  yes, thats rather the point, just as a car with aircon is different to one without.  Ones got a GTI engine & badge a few other nips and tucks and is valued at more than the other.  But at the end of the day they are basically the same, made in the same factory, by the same worker, to the same standard.  

Value is all about perspective and reflects what someones opinions of an items worth.  Just because you dont want aircon, doesnt mean others dont.

if u sell it provately with after-market mods or factory mods U *"MIGHT"* be able to squeeze a few extra quid.. but not alot... cos those added extras u got were for ur benefit, u cant charge others extra.. f*ck they might not want em!

if u sell to a dealer or garage etc .. u wont get a PENNY extra.

You just don't have a clue do you Black_Gti, I think it's more a case of how many times do WE have to say this before YOU understand!

Go onto Parkers.co.uk pay ?1.99 (or whatever) and do a personalised valuation for a GTi without any extras and then do one for a GTi with aircon, leather etc. Bet they value the one with leather and aircon at more than a standard Gti, or have they got their database all completely wrong?

Next you'll be saying that an 8v and a 16v are worth the same cos they're both just GTi's after all aren't they?

Aftermarket performance mods like exhausts, wheels, headlights etc will never add value and usually lower the price people will pay for a car.

Factory extras will always increase the price people will pay for a car all the time it is worth reasonable money.

If people don't want an extra, like some people dislike leather, they won't look at you car, they will just buy a cheaper one without the extra.

For example, lets take a REAL LIFE scenario.  On friday i sold my car to a bloke who paid ?300 extra specifically for factory fitted air con and cd changer.  He said "this car is ?300 pounds more than another i've seen, but i want air con and the cd changer so you've got a deal".

So it seems to me that factory options hold their value and depreciate roughly in line with the car.
