Of course extra's add value, for f**ks sake, it's unbelievable some of the sh1t you come out with Black_Gti!  ::)

Dealers will always try to screw you on part exchange values, they'll try all sorts of bull sh1t to make sure they don't give you anywhere near what it's actually worth. I'll put money on the fact that the two cars above that were traded in you mention went on the dealer forecourt at different prices.

I'm not even going to bother going on with this post because it's clear that you have no idea!

Just sold my 16v privately.  Got ?4k

VW Dealership offered me ?2,700 after some pushing by me.

Only a mug would trade a car in, unless you have enough money not to care, or are in a massive hurry.

The bloke who bought it said he'd seen another similar mileage, history etc but ?300 cheaper and was prepared to pay and have mine because he wanted air con and a cd disc changer, both factory fitted options  :o

So in my experience options make a big difference in private sales.

A VR6 isn't a way of life, it's just a car.

i was offered 1,500 for my old polo when i bought my valver.. i passed and kept the polo. they advised me i'd be best off selling it privately as i'd get more.

This was coming from a vw specialist who's basic business is reselling cars that have been traded in.. my valver was a trade-in via a peugot dealership, they take some of those kind of cars off the dealers hands for roughly what they were traded in for..  and then clean them up, service them, get MOTs etc and sell them on.  mostly performance golfs, corrado's and bmws.. >> http://www.expert-tecnik.com (they had a nice g60 corrado and mk2 valver right now)

4 months later i sold it for 1,750 privately :)

(yes i'm lazy and i didnt really try that hard until 4 months later.. close to xmas + MOT was due easrly feb...  all got in the way...)

Depends how quickly you want to sell it... but I think most of the above numbers are about right....

BlackGTI isn't completely off his rocker: part-exchange / dealer will probably tell you it won't add any extra and you'll be lucky to get ?2500... you can argue otherwise, but he'll always pay a lot less that it's worth  that's how they make their money after all...

Obviously with private sales the extras will add a bit more... or at very least give you a lot more chance of getting the asking price. I've just been looking around on Autotrader recently (on behalf of a friend) and a good condition 8v GTi N reg with trimmings (leather and air con are rare) should be asking around ?3500 ono, I've been looking at slightly newer, slightly higher mileage cars for around that level. You can chance it and try ?3750 if you don't mind waiting a bit, depends on you confidence levels on quite what the condition and desirability is like / if you'll find the right sort of VW enthusiast or somebody who really wnats those extras. For a quick sale, you might have to go for ?3250 ono.

You were talking about factory extras a minute ago, they will add value, but it looks like you're now talking about "modification" extras as in big wheels, huge exhausts etc. If that is the case then you're right they won't add any extra value to the car.

So, to summarise factory extras will add value (eg sat nav, leather, air con etc etc) but "barry boy" extras (eg LED washer jets, etc etc) will not.

I'm not trying to start a fight and to be honest I think you're well out of order call me the 'c' word, you don't know me, never met me, so don't judge me. I haven't with you (apart from based on the sh1t you type on here.)

Ah bollocks to it, I'm going to go home now.
