I need some help...oh and I'm new lol!
« on: 31 March 2008, 14:02 »
Good day to everyone, been reading the site for a good while now since I looked into buying a Golf.

I may not have a GTI but I have a 1.8 GL and as my first car, I'm quite impressed with it, sig banner to follow shortly.

Now what I'm after is advice one a few things.

I recently installed a pair of Juice components into the front doors and dash, they have decent sound but are running from an Alpine 9880r HU at the moment, which I know is not doing them any justice. This is where I need the help.

I'm not a huge knower of things ICE, and I did intend to get a subwoofer in the middle of April, what I want to know is:

a) Is it better for me to get a 4 channel amp and bridge it so I can send power to the front components and power the sub, or should I get seperate amps for the fronts components and one for the subwoofer?

b) Depending on the decision from question one, what amp and what sub do you guys suggest? I have about £160 - £180 for both, I know I won't be getting ultra cool high end stuff, but this is my first car, and I just want a decent set up for my music, and all of it to sound nice when I do lol!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Great site!!! :D

Thanks for the links, will that sub and amp be a good entry level set up do you think? As in good enough for me to have a good listening experience, and the seperate amp will help me get the kind of power the new components were meant for?

and this amp by itself for the front speakers?

BTW, I've noticed noone seems to link to this site? How come?

If you mean the audio site I have no idea ? and the gear in the links you put up looks fine but as ever its all a matter of personal taste and how much your willing or can afford to spend to get the sound you want

Yeah the site I've dealt with before, usually next day delivery and they ring you up to make sure your car will fit all the bits you've ordered before they process it.

As for my gear I've posted, I think I'll probably go for all that, according to reviews that JBL sub is a top notch winner for someone who's never had a sub before, and apparently get alot for your money, my main quibble is the separate amp.

I think it handle 240W RMS, (that's not peak I'm referring to) so that should be cool for a set of components correct?

You must be one of the lucky ones! not many people have a good experience with them. the key is in the abbreviation CAC!

or did you want to own inphase stuff to begin with?!

I didn't even know Juice were made by InPhase, I've heard they are pants, but then again I haven't exactly been on the scene for car audio long enough to know what's good and what's not.

As for the site, I bought a headunit for a friend, and speakers for a friend before and service was great, then got round to buying my stuff and they were very helpful again, guess it's down to luck? lol!

I'm in a bit of a situation atm now.

I don't know if I should go for a seperate amp for the front speakers and a seperate amp and sub so 2 amps 1 sub, or do I buy a four channel amp to power both the front speakers and the sub?

Which is easiest or should I say the best, I assumed that buying a 4 channel amp would be easier to install because that means I only need to wire one into the battery and the headunit?
