Traction Control
« on: 13 April 2004, 19:54 »
It's probably been mentioned before in the past but is it true that traction control is standard on the 16v? My car is on an R (98). What does it do, make the car handle better?

yes.

its the same as on the vr6. its there to eliminate torque steer, it stops doing its thing over 25 mph.

I've heard you can disable the traction control and make the car a little quicker! Is that right?

i haven't heard that, it makes sense though.

mr '6 said something in another thread about rumours of a connector under the back seats. wonder if it'd affect the abs or not though since the two systems are linked.

The black box under the back seat is the control unit for ABS/EDL. So i guess if you disconnect then you won't have any ABS either.
Anyone want to give it a go? I'll let you lot try it first  :D

Nice one, let me know what happens.
The only reason i haven't tried it is incase the Abs needs resetting. I'm not sure about this, should be ok though.

I'm assuming that the 8v doesn't have it at all, even the 98 cabriolet.... since I can spin out / get pretty bad torque steer if I floor it at all - last weekend was fun - nearly 150lb/ft torque and no TC on wet roads!

I still don't think my valver has TC!!! It just spins up if I give it some beans below 25mph whether it's moving or from a standing start. I checked to make sure my ABS works in case the previous owner had disconnected that plug and the ABS still works. I have to stop playing around to see if the TC works as my front tyres are getting quite bald now!!!

I think it may have been introduced to later models, Post 95 possibly.
