Yeah you have got it. I did the natural thing and lifted off the pedal as soon as the wheels spun, just keep your foot down and the ABS should kick in and correct it.

.......doesnt work too well in the wet tho.

^ lol yes, not so good :)

i found it works well on slightly grimey roads, but on really wet roads it can't cope.

i have a 1993 brochure which covers the 8v and 16v and it says the 16v has it...

Used to have a '97 MK3 16v GTI 3dr in 'Black Magic'... now have a '55 Civic Type-S...

Lol, if I keep my foot planted I just end up sitting in a cloud of tyre smoke!!! I'll keep experimenting! Need new tyres anyway, might as well make the most of it!

From everything I've heard in the past, the 8v doesn't have it at all (I don't think even as an option) and on the 16V & VR6 TC is standard, regardless of which year.

WRT to disabling it to "go quicker", it only does it's stuff at <25mph, so it's not like the some of these "stability control" systems on BMW's and such where your high speed cornering is restricted because the brakes are applied gently on individual wheels to stop the back from sliding out too much. It might theoretically restrict your take off speed, but from the sounds of things it's not an especially pro-active system, so it's almost certainly doing you more favours than anything else...

What I'd be interested in though: if the car already has ABS, would it be possible to enable traction control by swappin gout the 8V ABS control with a 16V / VR6 control??

The traction control deffo works at higher speeds than 25mph.
It does on mine, i got it to cut in about 35-40mph  :D

Sorry - my bad, just repeating misinformation....

If the car already has ABS, but NOT TC, would it be possible to enable traction control by swapping out the 2.0 8V ABS control with a 16V / VR6 control and effectively give yourself traction control?

Don't go to too much trouble on my account, but it would seem a sensible add-on for an 8V as soon at it's been tweaked, 'cos there's so much torque low-down, it's hard NOT to spin the wheels sometimes!
