hey thats kl which did u go for in the end? The hawk 1's came with general instructions because it's not really anything that integrates with what the car already has if that makes sense, whereas the upgrade obviously wires into the golfs existing components - ill have a look at my instructions when i get home tonight, i havent been home for days

Went for the Halk alarm, imobilizer and central locking kit, £40 odd. Thought i might as well get it all at once. Working away have ya?

Been round my girlfriends quite alot :embarassed: lol Have you got electric windows or manual? If manual remove the winder by sliding the clip on the base of the winder outwards and the handle comes right off - if not simply remove the door card by sliding the card upwards (might be slightly stiff) there's little hooks that keep the door card on when you push it back down..

You need to pull the 'loom' that comes with the package (the bunch of wires which should have a long plastic connection on 1 end) through to both/ all 4 doors by going behind the dash above the footwells, with the plastic connection ending up in the space tucked up above the front passenger footwell - you can then get through to the battery from there through 1 of the holes in the engine wall.

You should be able to thread the cables through the existic holes/tube from main car to door and connect each wire up to the solenoids using the clips which are attached.. Because I didn't have electric windows or central locking I had to make my own tube to go from car to door.

Wire the whole lot up (the instructions should help alot) and off you go!

Hit any probs at all?

Ok got the door cards off! with a bit of a pull! they were held on with these kinda rivits. Pealed back this plastic stuff and connected the pump to the door, then it got dark! lol

I connected the new rod to the old one which pulls the door pin down, one is working fine and the other hardly moves at all...  so i dunno if it needs adjusting. The original door rod is pretty small isnt it and really fiddly getting it on, does all this soud rit? I would post a picture but i dont know how..?

How is the boot connected? is it rods? The boot sounds a bit more complicated

Under the thumb is it! lol know how you feel!

The golf rod of the lock is really small and fiddly yeah... if you've got big hands you're gnna find it slightly more difficult than usual lol..

The boot doesnt use a rod at all, as far as I can remember there's a plate on the outside of the mechanism which is dark grey/black. This is solid and moves freely attached to the lock itself, so something I thought about doing was drilling a small hole in this plate, putting some sort of pin through the hole and attaching the solenoid in the same way you do normal locks, but instead of connecting to the door fiddly rod connect to the pin you've put in there.. (tell me if that doesnt make sense). Screw the mechano-looking piece in the usual way and you should be on your way...

I'm not priviledged enough to own a gti  So i'm afraid I'm gnna be unable to help with the petrol cap!

GavGti - if you look in like the second or third posts you'll see an ebay link or 2, 1 of them is for a remote upgrade kit, that's the kind of thing you need..
