No unfortunately not.. but he did smell of stale alcohol. It was actually at a family wedding so he knew a few people that I did so I didnt want to take it to the next level but he came very close... cant stand a liar esp when they are willing to lie to your face!

But I am gonna try squeeze a little extra work out of VW which i certaily think is deserved as I am doing a 50mile round trip to get the car to the garage and back... not to metion probably driving round in a fox for a few days!!

Ok probably a little late for questions as I have already bought the unit now... but was just curious as to a few points, especially as i have a parrot & ipod (in armrest) fitted.

1. Will the track names show up on the screen?? I have been following a post on vwnavi.com but got slightly lost after 10 pages.. I think i might need a MDI cable or something?? Has anyone done this?

2. Will the parrot operate through the RNS510??

Just pondering these questions myself - I too have the factory iPod in the armrest and I've got lost on that thread also. Bit like this thread - it goes off topic a bit. Think I'll register on VW Navi and post as a newbie

1. Think unlikely - functionality will probably be the same as MFD2 - no artist/track names

2. Parrot should work as with MFR2. I sold my Parrot kit before fitting and have gome the OEM Bluetooth kit from Stu

Cheers cass! I am still working my way through the thread (again) and have I am convinced that they are trying to find a way to have full track names from the ipod on the HU. As someone says below..

By the way just out of intrest how does the OEM bluetooth compare to the parrot?? And how much are we looking in terms of cost??

First,

Thanks to you guys doing all this work to get the RNS-510 to integrate with existing systems.

I have a 2008 R32 with nav and ipod adaptor in the consol armrest. I have an RNS-510 that I have not installed as yet. While the functionality of the current OEM nav with the ipod connection in the armrest is somewhat odd for an OEM execution (nav sees the ipod as a CD changer. Will play ipod content but functionality is limited) I don't want to loose what I have.

Is the current effort that you guys are making an effort in part to get the RNS-510 to see and connect with that ipod port that is in my armrest or are you guys trying to do something else? Frankly I would be happy if the RNS-510 had the same oddball ipod functionality that my current OEM nav unit has. Do you guys know if the RNS-510 will actually do that much right out of the box or will it simply not interface with the ipod port in the console at all at least right out of the box?

I just want to make sure that I at least understand what you guys are trying to accomplish so that I don't end up screwing the whole thing up relative to my car and the eventual installation of the unit.

thanks again.

Reply.....
Tthe whole concept of this MDI is to control and display the iPod as an iPod -not as a CD Changer- thru the touchscreen of the RNS-510. Your current iPod adapter still can be used with the RNS-510, but it will behave as a CD Changer (no song information displayed anywhere, limit of 5 playlists plus all songs selection).

Thanks for that Cass.

I am getting my parrot looked at tomorrow as it hasnt been functioning properly and the gent that fitted it disconnected my ipod when he did. So once I have that sorted (or returned it) I will be looking at alternatives.

Managed to get to the end of that thread and apparently there is a lead available that will allow the ipod tracks to be displayed on the HU. There was a link to a kit but it included a relacedment unit for under the arm rest and was a little pricey. I am quite sure I have seen a part number of there which can be ordered directly from VW... will try dig it out later.

I think VrStu may have the answer to many of these questions already :undecided:

Thanks again
