you can listen to music via the radio/AUX Audio/CD changer (if you have one) and use the NAV at the same time, but not the internal CD player because the NAV DVD is in.

Thanks for all the info guys, I think I will getting one off eBay to fit myself.  Just one more question, my GTI has a standard 3.5mm aux input in the rear cupholder which I connect my ipod to - I assume this will still work with the MFD2 by just plugging in the same wiring harness?

No mine was the correct type, I think its fakra or someting like that.

so why would the sat nav dvd have to be in all the time?? is this the same as all the units?? i was planning on getting this at a later date but if the DVD has to be in all the time then i wont bother.

dvd has to be in for the sat nav to work, its gets the map data from the dvd.

you need the 6 disc changer to listen to cd's at the same time.

Or an ipod adapter.

Fitted mine about a month ago and am well impressed.  It looks better than the std unit and the sound is much better.  I have the 6 disc changer so i dont have any problems with not being able to play CD's at the same time.

I do however have my antenna on the top of the dash as i wanted the bestv possible signal.  Looks OK i think....

For a 54 plate (Jan05) GTI does it have to be the MFD2? (I assume there is only 1 version of the MFD2) :undecided:

was just looking on ebay and theres an MFD2 version C which it states is the newest and is able to play CDs as the mapp is built in!!!  :huh:
