Thanks Winrya. I called the VW helpline...spoke to someone who sounded like someone in my daughters primary 4 class, denied ALL knowledge of this article or any fixed price approach..I am livid...anyway I said I would call back in the morning with more details!

I also will collect an accessory brochure and ram it up AC at Jordanhills rear end if it is as you say it is... I am sure it is, and I am looking forward to the insertion process )

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)

Actually Winrya, that article is from 2006!!  .....guess I shall keep phoning VW dealers in Scotland too...I am becoming a little annoyed by this Cruise Control issue....the mechanic sent a couple of queries through to VW at the service....I am STILL waiting a response on both the Cruise and the auto dimming lights sensitivity issue..

TBH I think these issues could be resolved by a "cool" dealer...if there are any out there. Anyway I will post any progress, for general information. Hopefully it will assist others who face a similar situation.

Update...VW Verve £165 to retro fit complete...

I reckon however if I can get someone who has a clue with VAGcom and can diagnose it either being NOT activated (and reactivate if possible) OR can test the stalk or compatibility with the steering control panel then it will be fixed for much cheaper than this, ....however my dealer seems unwilling to resolve the matter for me.

UPDATE
Hehehe...this is fun! Just been to another garage and picked up winrya's suggested Accessory Booklet...Page 10 under Accessories Packs..Cruise Control Part Number 1KO 054690....£150 inc VAT including fitting! Jeeez do these retailers not know what they are doing !!!    :nerd:

Some don't. There are so many options and cars to choose from, its hard for them to keep up.

On the other hand we are enthusiasts of one particular model.....the GTI ...... and know the car pretty much inside out.

Not yet, I am waiting on AC Jordanhill getting back to me with the outcome of their technical query to VW, at that stage I will decide either to request the retrofit OR affect a repair.

My digging on line tells me that there is an incompatibility with some cars cc retrofit and the steering control module and that some dealers have issues coding the CC up to work correctly.  I reckon most likely some dolt has tried a retrofit and not been able to get it working.

I will call them again tomorrow and see if there is any update.

The car is fitted with blue bulbs in the footwell    I think the dealer suggests that this also is leading to another fault...how ridiculous is that! anyway more tomorrow thanks.

Stevie, spoke to both previous owners they did not retrofit.  There is ONE other, the original owner a guy in Market Drayton which i am having no luck in tracking down. Spoke to the original supplying dealer, Citygate Colingdale London and would you believe it....They have no records of ANY car before 2006!!

Yes they can tell me that the car was supplied by them, but they have no detailed records of repair or retrofit etc....i think that is ridiculous given that the car is still under warranty.  Surely from a liability perspective this is irresponsible on the dealers part?

Even if they did fit it, the fact that they have no records suggests that it could have been retrofitted before Jan 06, which would suggest that its outwith any dealer retrofitted part warranty anyway.

Its frustrating cos all the bits are there and installed, I really just need someone who knows how to analyse the fault and either replace a stalk, get a compatible steering wheel control module or simply just do the necessary coding on vagcom.  Any good independent VW specialists in Glasgow?  Years ago there used to be a company called Deutschtune...alas they are no more.
