second long life service
« on: 25 March 2008, 11:36 »
Ok all, my wee beauty is now with the Dealers....having just purchased the car via private sale...this is the first time its been looked at by a local VW garage, no names no packdrill ..........yet.

I am sitting nervously waiting on a call to tell me the worst.....

Disappointing that the girl who booked the car in 2 weeks ago failed to put on her system that the car was actually in for a service!  She also waffled some garabge to me about "oh dont worry we will replace the scratched silvered console for you, there will be a part "lying around" which we can just replace for you"....and whilst booking in I mentioned my illegal German style alloy number plates...she said "Yes, no problem sir I will get these replaced with GB Euro style plates for you, cost tenner an end" OK!    I said. ...however on booking in today...the girl who booked in was nowhere to be seen...and no one had any knowledge of this and in fact they couldnt replace with GB euro plates at all....

Anyway, car is now with them for the second long life service and a number warranty issues are being looked at...(the car was previously on LL service having been serviced last July at 14.5k miles), its now done 26k.

1. 3 door, driver seat pull lever (at top of seat) doesnt release the seat to allow it to slide forward.
2. testing the auto lights on funtion, too sensitve and doesnt readily switch off when in light again.
3. cruise not working.
4. scratched centre console replacement (cost to be advised and a new date for replacement if they dont have one in stock).
5. I had previously mentioned to them that the auto dipping passenger side view mirror doesnt work on reverse...as per previous posts...it wasnt included in the 09/05 build.   :embarassed:

I wonder if they will also sting me for a brake fluid change as well give the car is two and a half years old now.....Should have I asked for an ecu remap or do they do that as a matter of course anyway?

Anyway watch this space for either a Glowing Recommendation later today on the dealers service or a sad, sorry tale of overcharging, miscommunication, poor workmanship, no parts and a complete lack of joined up service and thinking......I fear the latter I am afraid..if the booking in service is anything to go by.

Ooooo I am sooo cynical aren't I ?     Right... think positive thoughts, think nice thoughts....

thanks nice to know....however it didnt work...the positive thinking that is.

cruise control apparently was not fitted as stock, it doesnt work...so they are saying it must have been retro fitted and as such will NOT be covered under warranty!  Tomorrow I am going to call round the supplying dealer and a couple of others that i have previous receipts for (that came with the car) to find out if they retro fitted it.  Now if its a VW garage retro fit then by my reckoning it should be covered under warranty.

Also, cos some muppet had replaced the footwell lights with blue bulbs and installed a bass woofer there is a "fault" appearing in his diagnostics related to that and he cannot repair it either.

I had a prob with the auto on/ off lights, they have sent a query to VW and await a response, apparently it senses when to go on but does not switch off!!   There is an implication that cos of the after market work in respect of the bulbs and woofer (and also replacing the centre silvered console) that ANYTHING could have caused it.... I am pissed off.

And Oh the service cost £301 too.

feel the mechanic did know his stuff though - however the jury is out about the rest.. lets see how the VW query goes.

BTW the stealer wants £93 to change the centre console upper and lower from shabby silver to stock black.

HEY on the plus side the service went well and the car drives like a DREAM, it seems faster and more responsive woooo hooo...so at least thats something...however i like cruise control I do use it on all my cars and find on boring journeys it does improve consumption by up to 10 percent.

I got my cruise retro fitted by my local VW Dealer and they confirmed it would be covered by a 12 month guarantee.

If all else fails they should supply and fit you a new one for £150.

thanks mike much appreciated...i had negotiated a £100 discount on the CC not working anyways so I guess its not too bad...however not sure that my local stealer will be as low as £150 i will wait on VW formal response and then get a quote.

Honestly £150-£155 including VAT is the going rate at main dealers. If they try charging you more go elsewhere. I went to the main dealers in Leamington Spa to get it fitted and I hadn't purchased the car from them or had any previous delaings.

Awesome GTI in Manchester also fit them for £150, but I think as your experience shows its better to get the dealer to do it so that they don't try blaming any other faults that occur on that installation.

Yep, though I am in Glasgow it would prolly take two tankfuls to get to Awesome and back! taking the total fit out to over £270!!! he he

I reckon my cruise was fitted by a dealer, I have a couple of numbers to try first.  In the service book theres the main suppling dealer, then theres a receipt from another garage who seem to have "reset plug and clear error code" and the last garage to service the car before I got it.

I would buy the console trim and fit it myself. Use this guide to help you:-
