My ten pence worth...

I love the Corrado's styling - its basically a Golf in an Armani, and as already said above, I'm sure they will be a serious classic in say ten years. I have therefore considered maybe moving to a Corrado for my next car, however, my only issue with them is the compromised engines...

1)  16v is relatively slow and apprently feels a bit weedy
2)  The G60 ties you in to expensive G-Lader refurbs, and as its a more highly strung engine I would be constantly worried its going to pop
3)  The VR6 is a delightful lump but would be much more difficult to maintain on a DIY basis due to the size/weight of the engine and cost of parts.

Ive been having similar ideas, altho i was considering the 1.8l 16v to replace my mk2 8v as the insurance on a g60 is silly. is there any big diff on the 2l 16valver? would a 16valver mk 2 be a better option? any more info would be appreciated :)

cheers

Corrados are awsome, love the look of them and it handles great and fairly good on fuel (1.8 16v). Mine has been pretty reliable (considering its on 189K) although when it does go wrong some parts can be expensive/hard to source. They dont need much to make them look good and are getting rarer and often gets people commenting on how nice it is and that you dont see many any more (although they often call it a scirocco too...).

That said it is slightly more juicy than my g/f's mk2 8v gti (although still averages 30mpg+ on normal driving), is slightly higher to insure and the golf feels a lot more "go cart" like and is probably more fun to drive due to not having to rev the hell outta it to get it to go (think the Rado is faster but the golf feels faster if you get what i mean ).

You can put a Golf 16v throttle body on the Corrado 16v engine, which gives it a bit more top end power...
