Could door locks cause bad idle?!
« on: 23 March 2008, 22:28 »
My central locking has packed up. It was not working that well when I bought the car. Now I still have my idle troubles...... due to the central locking system working of a vac' could that cause a leak and in turn cause bad running?!  I know it may sound mad but ive tried everything else with no joy.

When I bought the car 2 weeks ago the central locking made a kind of whirr noise and all the locks worked via the central locking..... now there is no whirr noise and the central locking have stopped working.

The C/L will not effect the running of the car as it is independent from the rest of the systems (other than elecs). You may just need a new C/L pump to sort the C/L out, but first try cleaning the whole C/L system.

As for the idle troubles what have you tried?
Passat B5.5 2.3 V5 170, with all the extras.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

How do I clean the C/L system?

Idle cures so far are......

New HT leads
New plugs
New dizzy cap
New rotor arm
New vac pipes
Cleaned out all breathers and checked for cracks
Cleaned throttle body
New air filter
Cleaned ISV with carb cleaner
New Blue sensor
Timing and idle set

Still no joy with any of the above. It will be fine sometimes then others a real sod. It will idle between 750-1600 a few times (4-8 times) then settle at around 850.

I think 850 is too low, try setting it to between 1000 and 1100. That might also cure the hunting idle as well.
