If the issue is important (spelt "expensive") enough, VW can send your ECU to Bosch in Germany and any past presence of a remap can, I'm told, be detected. It's an utter fool who seeks to hide his remap, especially from his insurance company.

I second that!

i've told my insurance company about my remap but choose to keep this from my vw dealer. it could save a load of bother one day if they dont know. those who have told the dealer are still at risk of having no warranty cover if something goes wrong regardless of them saying they have no issues with your remap, i wouldn't trust them as far as i could throw them! but it comes back to everyone to their own.they mostly cant be trusted to service your car properly let alone back you up if something goes wrong with your engine or gearbox.

When i had an ecu failure after i got revo (not 100% revo caused it) if i told my dealer the car was mapped i would have been hit with a bill of around £2000.

....Well I've already posted numerous times about how good my VW dealer is. You may it sound as if a VW warranty is totally trashed just because you have a remap - For example, a non-ECU related issue. Each to their own but I still think anyone who hides it from an insurer is actually worse than a fool.

....Fair enough Stevie. I guess it's the advantage of living in a rural area where businesses need to cultivate and look after their customers to survive.
