Morning all!!

Right, my mk2 16v has just crept past the 115k miles mark today and I've been a bit lazy keeping up to date with my oil changes. Usually I'll do 5k a change and it keeps the tappets from complaining too much; They've starting to tick again and it's annoying the hell outa me!

I don't have the cash to rip the head apart and replace them so will have to go down the 'flushing' route to get the tarnish of them (and stop the poxy noise!!!).

I started doing some diggin on what flush to use as the Wynn's stuff I've never been that impressed with; I stumbled across a few recommendations for Forte products which sounded promising. Whilst reading about I've heard ALOT of people talking about running diesel oil for 1 to 2k as well to help flush the engine?! Apparently they have better detergents in them and modern diesel oil is almost the same as petrol!?

Just wondering what others may or may not have heard or tried with this!?

Dave.

ahh i saw you driving t'other day david, hows tricks?

i've heard that diesel oil is good for keeping engines quiet but not as a flushing additive. however a guy i know puts diesel in the oil to flush it out, drives 50-100 miles and apparently it works great. thought about trying it on my passta but was too scared!

a guy i used to work with sweared by running diesel/oil mix (50/50) for up to an hour, apprently works a treat

I don't think a semi will give the same results

Cheers for the replies - all good thanks lads and roll on the summer (and the show season :p)

Well I'm gonna give it a wurl me thinks - after doing some reading it seems quite a well used practice! Just to recap this is diesel 'oil' not diesel 'fuel' in the oil - I've seen a few horror stories of that mistake being made whilst reading about! It'll rip your engine to pieces if done wrong

I'll keep everyone posted . . .

Well that does the job too but in a fair more aggressive fashion often with some nasty results!

I'd try the diesel oil first as the whole idea is it's a slow gentle process with the extra detergents, not attacking the inside of your engine with something fair more destructive.

stick half a litre of auto transmission fluid in for about 50-100 miles, that'll clean it up better than diesel!!
