People really shouldn't take as red everything that Clarkson says, he is a prat.
Without going on about it as it really doesn't matter, the Astra given to TopGear was
a pre- production VXR which had the old SRI chassis. Vauxhall have since lived to
regret ever giving this to Clarkson to review because it wasn't close to the actual model
eventually produced.
Any figures given out for the VXR or lap times prove that it is a very very capable car.
I've had mine for two years and some of the rubbish people come out with, usually second
hand, is so annoying. It really is an amazingly quick car in all situations.

But still, I've chopped it in for a Monza Black GTI on 18"s, and I can't wait!

thats not a uk astra sri im sure of it, the only one that has simular performance is the one that cant handle round corners, forgot what its called............... oh yeah vxr thingy

And the vxr goes round corners just fine, just hold on to the steering wheel and you'll be fine. And in terms of performance, the vxr is quicker than the GTI manual, DSG and the R32
What about the ED30 though...?    Think the DisAstra will have it's work cut out there.. And yes I am a fan of the VXR, nearly went for one. Just not a fan of the interior..
As for Top Gear track. I think you'll find the R32 was a good 2.5  -  3 secs faster than the VXR. Pre-production model or not..

Actually, Im going to give up at this point.
I'll keep everyone happy by just saying that the VXR along with the Meg, ST, Leon etc etc is absolutely crap compared to the Golf GTI.

I guess I was a bit naive to think people on this forum, even though performance wise all the above cars are quicker than a GTI, would be any different to any other forum.

I love VW, I can't wait to get my GTI and the VXR is rubbish

Was merely stating the correct facts mate, The R32 ran a 130.4  See here mate...  http://youtube.com/watch?v=xjtTuBTJYSc
The GTI is slower than the cars mentioned, I agree, as will most of the other chaps on here. Nobody has said different. I was just saying that the Ed30 is a better comparison with the VXR.. Chill!

That was the old R32! The new one was about 3.5secs quicker than the old one.
