Bloody rust....
« on: 15 March 2008, 21:16 »
Not sure of the correct terminology here but there is rust on the piece of metal that sits behind the wheel but in front of the disc break and calipers (the bit the wheel screws into) - has anyone else got this problem as it looks sh!te and seems to be getting worse?  Car is only 7 months old with 11K so is this something I can complain about and get rectified under warranty?

Also, while I'm on talking about rust - anyone got recommendations on how to keep the tail pipe nice and mint - mines looking a bit nasty at the moment and finding it difficult to get the crap off it.  Will a metal polish work?

Cool... let me know how you get on.  I'm in the stealers on Thursday so I might ring up on Monday and see.  I'll post the response.  I don't ever remember owning a car with such a problem.

my GTi had this, and dealer resprayed the hubs. My 2nd GTi also has this, only done 900 odd miles and rust is there. Dealer again has had this repaired under warranty with absolutely no questions.

I painted the hubs myself. Was looking at a 56 plate R32 today and it was the same.

WD40 gets your tail pipes nice and clean. The crud just wipes off

As everyone says rusting hubs are common, best thing to do is to paint them yourself with a tough metal paint. The best thing for the tailpipes is Meguiars NXT Metal Polish which you can get in Halfords, brings them up really nice and shiny
